GoDaddy Auction VP Gets Slashdot Treatment

There’s nothing improper about the VP of aftermarket domain auctions bidding up domain prices, says GoDaddy, but they’ve banned employees from participating in the future anyway, just to make everybody happy.

And likely, to make the all the dirty looks go away.

What looked like an idle comment in NamePros.com’s domain forum stirred up the hornets nest a bit. The comment from a senior forum member going by Stevie read this way:

That name drop at the end caused a few mental brakes to lock.

GoDaddy hired Adam Dicker as vice president of its Domain Name Aftermarket sector. Dicker already had a certain amount of fame in the domaining business as the owner of PPC-cash-cows like Penpals.com, Planets.com, Witchcraft.com, FirePrevention.com, SM.com, ElvisPresley.com, SpongebobSquarepants.com and Download.net.

Immediately forum members called shenanigans, citing a conflict of interest if a GoDaddy executive could bid up auction prices. News spread to other forums in under a week, including Slashdot, where the conversation gets, to understate it, colorful.

UCLA Turns To Social Media

With the average teen spending nine hours a week on social networking sites, the UCLA School of Public Health has partnered with Health Net of California to develop a health literacy program using social media in an effort to encourage teens from 13 to 17 to take better care of their health.

Michael-Prelip “Over 90 percent of teens today use social networking sites, not just to interact with their peers but also to get information about issues that are important to them,” said Michael Prelip, a professor of community health sciences at the UCLA School of Public Health and one of the principal investigators of the project.

“This intervention will provide important clues about the effectiveness of social media in influencing adolescents’ understanding of their health care rights, responsibilities and benefits so that they can become good health care consumers.”

The two-year project, funded by a $1.1 million grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health,plastic hangers therapy helps in relaxing your tired feet. will use a randomized controlled trial to test the effectiveness of two different interventions – a Web-based social media intervention and a “usual care” intervention – to improve preventive care and decrease emergency room visits among adolescents.

But there’s still one reliable BP gusher that won’t stop, despite the latest attempt to cap the flow for good.

That would be Tony Hayward, the chief executive of BP who resigned yesterday, but still proved the dominant, lively presence at a press briefing introducing Bob Dudley as his self-composed successor.

Silenced by a few interjections from Hayward, the quiet American taking over the job in October seemed content to avoid talking about exactly how the oil giant would transform itself after the accident.

But Hayward took advantage of his last stand to explain how he’d been “demonised and vilified” in the US, forcing him to stand down for the good of the company.

He wouldn’t be drawn on whether his treatment had been fair or not.

However, he did give a hint with his statement: “It’s not a matter of whether life is fair or not. Life isn’t fair. We all know that. We can think of countless examples in our personal lives where life doesn’t seem fair.”

You might think by now that Hayward would have developed an aversion to ill-advised death metaphors. After all, America reacted with horror to his remark that he’d like his “life back” after the accident that killed 11 men. But asked to describe the experience of being chief executive during such a crisis, he remarked: “Well, sometimes you just step off the pavement and you get hit by a bus.”
